Getting Braces - there are many different types

The headings below outline some of the popular types of braces used to correct the position of teeth. Different types are used depending on the extent to which teeth are mis-aligned. Our Dentist-in-Town practice has a very wide range of orthodontic braces and we'll be happy to discuss which type of brace would be the most suitable for you. To see some of the cases we've treated, click on the 'Gallery' button in the navigation menu and you'll see a number of 'before' and 'after' illustrations.

  • Invisalign is the leading brand of clear, removable braces that are custom moulded to fit exactly over your teeth. For a course of treatment several sets of braces are required, each one being used along a journey to realigned teeth.
  • 6 Month Smile Braces are similar to Invisalign in that the treatment is a set of clear braces which, on average, take six months to realign teeth. However, suitability depends upon the extent to which teeth need to be moved.
  • Self Ligating Braces are also known as "speed braces" because they can produce the quickest results. With a very low friction design they allow the teeth to move more freely with less applied force.
  • Traditional Fixed Braces are non-removable by the patient and they are usually the lowest cost. They consist of small bonded brackets fixed to teeth that are then linked with a thin arch wire.
  • Inman Aligner Brace is a visible removable brace which can achieve quick results in minor cases. In certain cases, treatments can be as short as 8 weeks and it is necessary to wear the brace for 16-20 hours per day.
  • Lingual Braces are fitted to the rear of your teeth and as such they are totally invisible. However, they take longer to fit and are the most expensive option and not suitable for complex cases.
