Dental Crowns

Dental crowns are fitted over what we call 'viable' teeth which may have been damaged but are deemed to be otherwise healthy.  Chipped or cracked teeth are candidates and the procedure to fit the crown, which is specially made for the purpose, is fairly straight forward.  The treatment time relates to the preparation of the tooth to which the crown will be fitted, the time it takes to manufacture the crown and then the final fitting.  All work is usually complete within a month's timeframe or less.

Porcelain Crowns

The difference between a crown and a veneer – a crown covers all surfaces of a tooth.  Crowns can be used to enhance the strength of a tooth if it has been fractured or badly broken down.  If a tooth has been heavily restored with a dark filling and you are looking to improve the aesthetic appearance then a crown may be the more suitable treatment option.  The materials used to construct a crown are the same, strong materials used with veneers and look just as healthy and natural.  The size, shape and colour are designed to match either your own existing teeth or can be customised to create a new smile makeover.

Porcelain Bridges

If you have one or more teeth missing then a dental bridge can be used to replace the gaps.  Having a missing tooth can be traumatic, especially if it affects your speech as well as your appearance.  Once a tooth is lost, the remaining teeth become strained as there is an increased pressure forced on them by your bite.  They may also start to move around, which can cause food-trapping.  A false tooth is placed into the gap and anchored from adjacent teeth, there are various types of bridges used.  Bridges can be mounted across two adjacent teeth where there is a missing tooth in between or perhaps across 2 implants, each case is different.  Our Cosmetic Dentists will discuss all of the options with you during your initial consultation.
